Public Speaking/Debating
Douglas Community School has a strong history of excelling in debating and public speaking. Most recently, senior debating teams have reached the finals of the UCC Philosoph Munster Debates with Best Speaker Awards in two consecutive years. Participation in Concern Debates is also a highlight of the TY calendar.
Music Club
If you play a musical instrument the newly rejuvenated DCS Music Club awaits you. The halls of DCS have definitely been filled with the sound of music this year. Every week students meet in the library to play together for both enjoyment and to provide music for school events such as the Open Night, Christmas Carol Service, Grandparents Morning and the LC Graduation Ceremony.
Creativity Hub
Each Tuesday at lunchtime, students from Ist and 2nd year are invited to the Art room or the 'Creativity Hub'. A huge number of dedicated and "talented' teachers share something creative with these students as a means to explore, learn new skills, unwind, socialise and have fun. Students have tried yoga, origami, drama, juggling, MMA, science experiments, film studies, cake decorating, pictionary, poetry and much more. Put Tuesday lunchtime in your diary!
Chess
New boards, new pieces, new clocks! New participants welcome.
