DCS Munster Senior Soccer Champions
DCS are MCU Senior Soccer Champions! The DCS Senior Soccer squad defeated Ardscoil na Mara in a closely fought contest by 2 goals to 1 in Ozier Park, Waterford.
An absorbing but goalless final until midway through the second half, exploded into life when Ardscoil scored the opener against the run of play. DCS had seized the second half initiative and hit the woodwork twice before Ardscoil took the lead. But falling behind is nothing new to this squad and they showed enormous determination and self belief by continuing to play attacking, creative football.
Urged on by a vocal travelling support DCS fashioned a wonderful equaliser following some excellent wing play by Josh Fitzpatrick who centred hard and low for Devon Gibson to apply the finishing touch with a side foot volley.
DCS, spurred on by their outstanding captain Harvey Skieters, scored the winner when Joey Gibson fired a free kick hard and low into the net from 25 yards out.
DCS withstood some pressure in the dying minutes, with keeper Bruno Bosnjak making an outstanding save, until the referee blew the final whistle which signalled delighted celebrations from the DCS camp.
