DCS Welcomes the Lord Mayor of Cork City, Cllr Dan Boyle

The staff and students were delighted today to continue a long standing tradition of welcoming the Lord Mayor of Cork to address the school. Cllr Boyle delivered a thought provoking message to be mindful of our environment and to consider the small impacts we as citizens can effect. He urged our students to consider which modes of transport to take and perhaps to leave the automobile at home whenever possible. Fielding a series of excellent questions from the students the Lord Mayor explained how he came to devote his life to public service. He explained his passion for sport and in particular how much he enjoyed the recent successes by Cork Camogie and Gaelic Football sides as well as answering questions on international affairs such as the conflict in Gaza. The Lord Mayor left us with a gift of workbooks and seeds which will be used in the school horticultural programmes.
