New Beginnings at DCS

In DCS, September is a month of “New Beginnings”.  On the one hand,  we welcome our new 1st yr students, eager with anticipation, nerves and excitement as they start their new journey in secondary school.  On the other hand, our Leaving Cert class of 2022 have just completed that journey, and are full of hope, relief and enthusiasm as they embrace the new exhilarating opportunities their Leaving Cert results bring.

We can only wish that our new students have as happy and fruitful an experience here as our Leaving Cert class of 2022. Their results in all subjects are a testament to their diligence, application and resilience.

National averages were outperformed across a wide range of subjects. 18% of DCS students got a H1 in Maths, 24% in Chemistry and 21% in both Engineering and Business. Similarly in Biology, 33% of our students received a H1 with the national average being 18%. Then, 50% received a H1 in Accounting versus a national average of 20% and finally 57% in Construction versus a national average of 9%!  Not surprising then, that almost 1/3 of our students received over 500 points. The most encouraging aspect of these statistics is the range of subjects achieving exceptional results.

Academic achievement is of course only one measure of success. What is especially striking about this group is their participation in extracurricular activities while simultaneously achieving very high points. It is no small achievement to represent Ireland in soccer, play Minor for Cork, or represent Ireland in basketball.

To say that we are proud is an understatement. As educators, all we ever ask is that students work with us to achieve their full potential and this years class certainly did that.

As this chapter ends for the LC class of 2022, it is just beginning for our first years. They will be the LC class of 2028.  Good luck to all, the DCS world is your oyster!
