Tony 10 speaks to DCS

DCS were delighted to welcome Tony O’Reilly who spoke to our students from first hand experience about the perils and dangers of gambling addiction. Tony 10 was the online betting username of Tony, a postman who became front-page news in 2011 after he stole €1.75 million from An Post while he was a branch manager. He used the money to fund a gambling addiction that began with a bet of €1 and eventually rose to €10 million, leading to the loss of his job, his family, his home while winning him a prison sentence.

Tony addressed two captivated school groups with unedited visceral anecdotes from his life and imparted wisdom which he learned the hard way. The gambling industry targets young adolescent males so these sessions were invaluable for our students to learn about the less glamorous side to gambling. Many thanks to Ms McCarthy Craig for organising the event.
