Wizard of DCS
The corridors of DCS were fizzing with excitement and anticipation this past week as our annual TY play was in full swing. Titled ‘ The Wizard of DCS’, this year's play was a unique slant on the much loved ‘Wizard of Oz’ musical. The core storyline remained but some of the lead characters such as Barbie and Ken, Donald Trump and fan favourite Spiderman added a freshness to proceedings. Glinda, The Good Witch of the North, played by Leo Murray gives us his view of the week.
“ The fourth year play truly is one of the landmark weeks in our school calendar. I must admit that up until now I didn't really get the hype but I have most certainly been won over this week. Just seeing the sheer buzz that the 1,000 primary school kids get from the play makes all those moments of anguish and doubt behind the scenes worth it. Some of the lead characters like Trump and Spiderman are almost treated like Greek Gods for those two hours. It truly is a remarkable sight. I don't think many of us anticipated the sheer fanfare. Signing autographs betweens intervals, being swarmed afterwards just for a fist bump or high five, it really was brilliant! It wasn't just the primary school children either. Teachers, parents and fellow students were all patting us on the back. Many loved the show so much they went to both evening shows.”
“It goes without saying that virtually none of this would have happened without all the effort that went on behind the scenes. Firstly, the lighting and sound team who didn't put a foot wrong during the shows. Secondly, to Mr McNamara, his helper Mr Fahy and the students who built the Broadway worthy stage. Finally, a huge kudos must go to teachers Ms Millard, Ms Lordan, Ms Maher, Ms O'Reilly and Ms Healy who put in months and months of Trojan work that so often goes unnoticed.”
