Leaving Cert Class of 2024 - We Salute You!
“The things we carry should lift us up not weigh us down…memories, love and hope are the lightest necessities”. This was the message Kyle Leahy had for his classmates at the very memorable Leaving Cert graduation ceremony earlier this week when Fr Teddy honoured us with a beautiful mass.
Friendship was the very fitting theme for the ceremony, chosen by the class of 2024. Ms Anne Barry Murphy, who co-ordinated the evenings celebrations, reminded the students that friendship is a very precious gift.
Ronan Murray reflected on the memories made over his 6 years in DCS recalling the nervousness, excitement and anticipation of his first day here and the engaging class discussions, zoom teaching and craic over the years that followed. The many gifts brought to the altar reminded us of the many experiences and success down through the years.
Year head, Mr Ó Cuanacháin praised the 6th years for the example they set for the whole school. His message to them was to be the guy who sends the text and keep the precious friends they have made in DCS. He recounted a story of his own unforgettable Leaving Cert holiday to Garretstown, where they cycled to see the Moving Statue in Ballinspittle….a little different to the holidays the class of 2024 are planning!
The ceremony was further enhanced by the melodic music from our school choir and Leaving Cert student Sylvan Mayer Whitla on the piano. Mr Barry closed the evenings speeches by reminding the students that the class of 2024 will always be especially remembered to him as he too began his tenure in DCS 6 years ago. They “signed on together” in the words of Christy Moore.
Mr Barry echoed the sentiments of all the staff of DCS when he told them how proud he was to call them DCS men. The class of 2024 are indeed fine young men. They are good humoured, respectful and resourceful with such a bright future ahead of them. We sincerely hope all your dreams come true.
