Victory At All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championship 🏅
On Saturday the 8th of March the prestigious All Ireland Schools Cross Country took place in Ballybrit Race Course, Galway.
Current Munster Intermediate Boys Cross Country Champions DCS were aiming to get on the podium. This team, led by team captain Ben O’Reilly and team coach Shane Marshall had high hopes.
The team travelled to Galway on Friday to have an early look at the course and were looking forward to a great days racing.
After the warm up DCS athletes were ready to battle their hearts out. The gun went and Ben O’Reilly positioned himself into the top group. It was a tough race. 3 broke away with 1500m to go and an absolute battle took place. Ben had the race of his life achieving third place and a bronze medal securing qualification for the Irish team.
Then in 54th position, Cormac Sheehan had an incredible race followed closely by Oran Power in 64th position. There were also very admirable performances from Joey Cotter, Joshua Healy, Sean Harrington and Seoirse Norris. The team finished 6th overall with their best performance to date and were the first Munster team home.
Ben now looks forward to representing Ireland and competing against the very best in England, Scotland and Wales in two weeks time in Falkirk, Scotland.
