DCS Celebrates Neurodiversity
Today marks the end of our action packed “DCS celebrates Neurodiversity” event.
Through thought provoking workshops our students engaged in conversations that focused on Autism, appropriate language and neurodiversity symbols. They learned about LAMH (a method of communication for non verbal children). They discovered how many famous Autistic people see their Autism as a “superpower” and how that allowed them to excel in their chosen field.
During the week, we also had a visit from the AADI, Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland. Our fourth year students also organised a #redinstead day and a raffle to support the great work of the AADI.
Finally, we had a “sensory friendly” morning for some of our incoming 2023 first year students. The boys, their parents and their 6th class teachers met some of the DCS teachers and the mentors that they will have next year. This wonderful new initiative will enrich our school community as we become fully inclusive and truly reflective of modern society.
