We not longer post past pupils’ e-mail addresses on this site (for obvious reasons of privacy protection and anti-spamming).  We hear, however, that there is a thriving past pupils’ page on Facebook through which many DCS alumni are making contact with old friends and even organising reunions.

John O’Callaghan maintains a much-lauded unofficial Cork City FC website called CityNet.

Paul O’Flynn joined a film crew at 20 (1973), mainly working for RTÉ, but at other times for British, American and other stations.  He says he “worked on all ancient, extinct TV programmes like Hall’s Pictorial Weekly, documentaries, sports and politics back as far as Dev and Jack Lynch.  The election campaign for President Childers was one of the first jobs.”  He also covered the Air India and Whiddy Island disasters (1979 and 1985 respectively) and the visits of Pope John Paul II (also 1979) and US and Russian presidents.  He has kept up an interest in theatrical photography for the Everyman Theatre and the Cork Opera House since the mid-90s.  In 1996 he joined RTÉ Cork and has been editing Nationwide ever since.  He has had quite a few assignments in other parts of the world as well, and thus describes it as “generally an interesting way of life.  Never dull, plenty of variety.  It’s a very deadline-driven business, but well-organised.  Our programmes go out three times every week.  Keep watching (keep me in a job!).”

Tony O’Mahony emigrated to New Jersey, USA in September 1987, currently working as a Second Vice President in Manhattan for Bayerische Landesbank (the Bavarian state bank in Germany) as an Energy Credit Analyst and Team Leader.

Mark Butler living in Sydney, Australia, for past twelve years. Has worked in the entertainment industry for ten years and has been General Manager for a company involved in the television/video market for seven years.

Terry MacSweeney currently working as Software Development Manager in Fexco in Killorglin, Co Kerry, developing applications for the Gulliver online tourism system. Before that worked in Ipswich for BT at their research labs (1988-1990) and then went to IBM at their development lab in Hursley, UK from 1990 to 1997.

Jim Reynolds Credit Manager for Europe, Middle East, India and Africa for PictureTel, worldwide leader in the manufacture and supply of videoconferencing equipment.


Jason Kelly did medicine at UCC and is now a Specialist Registrar in plastic reconstructive and hand surgery at Jimmys in Leeds, completing an MD thesis on nerve repair.

Philip Monaghan did the National Certificate in Electronic Engineering, worked for Dennison (Youghal) as a Maintenance Technician in the manufacture of floppy disks , then joined Artesyn Technologies (formerly Computer Products) in Youghal where he is now a Design Engineer, designing power converters for the telecom market. Recently completed a BSc with the OU.

Colm Murphy studied Geology in UCC, got a PhD in Geophysics from UCG and is now a Senior Geoscientist working in the Oil, Gas and Minerals exploration industry with a leading surveying technology company. He spent six years overseas in Canada and England, got married in 1997, has 3 children and he lives presently in Ennis where he works from home.

Jeffrey W St Leger has lived in New York City for the past 13 years, manages a bar called Nevada Smith’s, located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

Tony Daly PhD in Organic Chemistry from University College Cork (1998), BSc in Industrial Chemistry from University of Limerick (1992) and a Diploma in Chemical Technology from Cork RTC (1989). Currently working with Pfizer Ireland Pharmaucticals (Ringaskiddy, Co Cork) since 1998. Previously worked with Roche Ireland (Clarecastle, Co Clare) and Eli Lilly (Dunderrow, Co Cork).

Colin McCarthy Civil Eng Diploma at Cork RTC 1991, went to America in 1992 and joined the US Air Force, did a tour in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Finished degree in Civil Engineering at Catholic University of America in 2001 and has been working as a transportation engineer for the Federal Highway Administration since then.

David Collins graduated in civil engineering and subsequently worked in Germany for three years and is living in Italy for the past eight years.

Brian Horgan A Catholic Priest served in the Diocese of Palm Beach, Florida, and as a Chaplain, in the United States Air Force. Presently serving at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, Arizona.

James McSweeney BSc in Microbiology (1994) UCC, PhD Biochemistry (1997) TCD. Married in 2000, moved to Ithaca, New York, then on to State College, Pennsylvania in 2005. Currently Director of Business Development for an Irish organisation, ICON Clinical Research, responsible for organising and managing clinical trials for pharmaceutical and biotech companies.

Bryan J. McCarthy studied civil engineering at ITT (Tralee), moved to New York City in 1997, now working as a quantity surveyor in Manhattan.

David Healy working for an international financial services company called Manulife Financial in Boston, Mass, USA. His current position is Operations Manager (Manulife North America).

Paul McCarthy left DCS in third year (1990) to take up employment in local radio stations in Tralee, Waterford and Mallow. Currently President of Students Union at Cardiff University in Wales, on sabbatical from studies in English literature.

Paddy O’Connell did his H.Dip. in Ed. in DCS. Currently business analyst, working in internet banking with the Royal Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh, Scotland.

David O’Sullivan got a microbiology degree at UCC in 1996, a PhD. in molecular biology from UCC in December 2000, travelled to the Universitry of Minnesota (USA) in early 2001 to take up a post-doctoral position in the Dept. of Food Science and Nutrition, started working in January 2002 with 3M Healthcare in Minneapolis/St. Paul MN as a research microbiologist in the medical division.


Peter Barry graduated from Biomedical Sciences in U.C.C., in ’97, currently on a scholarship doing viral research at New York University, N.Y, for a Ph.D.

Richard Guerin did Degree in Marketing, moved to Dublin worked for Dunnes Stores Head Office, then Ulster Bank Treasury then Global Asset Management (while studying the ACCA exams), working with BT Financial Group in Sydney Australia for three yrs as Manager Investment & Finance for one of the divisions.

Fergal Horgan Applied Power Incorporated, current role is as a senior buyer with responsibility over quotations.

Michael Martin after getting a BBS at Cork Institute of Technology and a M.Sc in Marketing Consultancy from the Graduate School of Business UCD, went to Montreal, Canada. Now working as a Director of Marketing and Business Development for Walt Disney’s Animation software producers, catering specifically for North America.

Richard Keane graduated with a PhD from the University of London after completing a pharmacy degree from the School of Pharmacy, University of London.  Currently working as a Senior Regulatory Executive (Team Leader) for the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline in Harlow working in the Regulatory Affairs Department.

Barry Slevin did computing in the Institute of Technology Tralee, currently working as a technical analyst in the IT department for Sedar (System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval) which is a subsidary of CDS (Canadian Depository for Securities) in Toronto, Canada.

Brian Young has been rowing full time since his graduation from Nottingham Trent University two years ago with a Bsc Sport Science, selected to represent Ireland in the world rowing championships in Milan 2003, finished 13th out of 29 entrants in the lightweight single.

Barra Casey went to University of Limerick to study Business Studies and to NUI Maynooth for a Masters in Finance/Economics, currently working in the Central Bank, Dublin.

Dylan O’Mahony obtained a degree in Business Infomation Systems from UCC in 2001 and has been working in Massachusetts, USA, for Bose ever since.

John Paul Quinn obtained a degree in Arts in UCC before gaining a Post-Graduate Higher Diploma in Youth and Community Work. Currently head of UCC’s Visitor Centre with responsibility for tourism and merchandise. Lives in Douglas and is still actively involved in youth work.


Liam O’Connell finished BS in computers (CIT) in 2002 and moved to San Diego. Still living there as of March 2003, now working for HP as a software tester.

Robbie O’Sullivan maintains a site for the International Mirror Class Association of Ireland.

David Owens graduated from UCC, BA, 2002. Started an MA in September 2002, but decided to go to the US, January 2003, and get married to Erin instead.
