DCS Top Basketball School in Cork!

, -

Last week was an exceptional week in the history of DCS Basketball when we were crowned the top boys basketball school in the county for 2012. It began on Monday afternoon where the U16 boys faced a very strong Colásite Choilm team in Neptune stadium. DCS shot out of the blocks with a blistering start, and after developing an early lead they remained dominant throughout the game, winning comfortably in the end on a scoreline of 66-42. The win was all the more impressive due to a number of the squad being unavailable due to injury, but outstanding displays from Liam Harris and Jack O Mahony helped the team to cruise to victory. (They are pictured above with U-19 star Michael Lynch, who stood in as assistant coach for the final quarter!)

The success story continued on Tuesday afternoon where the U19 Boys faced the same opposition again in Neptune stadium. This game was a much more closely fought affair, with Colásite Choilm making a very strong start, but DCS battled back to lead by the slimmest of margins at the end of the 1st quarter. This was a lead that they were never to relinquish, although they were never able to extend their lead to a comfortable margin, and kept their supporters on tenterhooks right to the final whistle!

It was an brilliant team display throughout the entire game and the quality of defensive basketball shown by DCS particularly during the final quarter was exceptional. Due in no small part to their defensive heroices, they eventually held on to win on a scoreline of 51-46. Outstanding players for DCS on the day were Darragh Fleming, Kiran Chopra, Michael Lynch and Ryan Lacey.

Both teams have put in a huge amount of time and effort into training this year and it has really paid off with these two victories. They are now through to the All-Ireland qualifiers in February. These will be a massive test for everybody involved and we wish them the best of luck.

Finally just a word of thanks to the two teachers involved, Ms O Callaghan and Mr O Loughlin, for all the time and effort they have put in preparing and coaching the teams throughout the year.
