On Friday 14th September Eoghan O’ Connell, a recent past pupil of DCS, returned to the school to talk to the current second year soccer squad.
Eoghan is currently playing with Glasgow Celtic Youths. During his time with DCS Eoghan represented the school in hurling, gaelic football, and most successfully at soccer. Eoghan was one of the youngest players ever to line out at senior level for the school soccer team and also managed to score a penalty playing for Mr. Ronayne’s senior team in their Munster Youth Cup semi final victory over St. Aidan’s. Eoghan went on to secure a medal as part of that Munster Youth Cup-winning squad. Just before he was due to return to DCS in fourth year, Eoghan’s remarkable talent was recognised by Celtic, who offered him a trial at the famous Glasgow club. Eoghan proved a major success and was quickly offered a contract. He is currently one year into that deal, and by all accounts the club are eager to hold onto this young talent.
During his recent visit to the school he spoke to the second year squad about the importance of hard work and giving everything to achieve your goals and dreams. He spoke of his daily training schedules, about his experiences in winning the league with Celtic Youths, about explosive battles with Glasgow Rangers, and about his time in DCS and the sacrifices and dedication required in order to achieve success.
The squad listened to every word and took great inspiration from Eoghan. Hopefully this will drive the squad on towards success this year and throughout their times at DCS, both on and off the field.
