Akhil Chellapuri (Fifth Year) won a Bronze Medal at the Biology Olympiads held in Dublin during the October midterm. The Irish European Union Science Olympiad (IrEUSO) is an individual, subject based (biology, chemistry or physics) science competition for students who are sixteen years of age or younger on 31 December prior to the competition. It is held annually in Dublin City University. Finalists qualify through their exceptional Junior Certificate Examinations in Maths and Science.
As one of four medal winners nationally, Akhil has been invited to participate in Practical Training in February and after a further assessment may be one of two to be selected to represent Ireland at the European Science Olympiad. Akhil is currently attending CIT each week as part of a joint mentoring/preparation project between the Biology Department here at Douglas Community School and the research lab of Dr. Jim O’ Mahony at CIT.
We are very excited about this and wish Akhil all the best.
