November Update


Douglas Community School student, Robert Lehane, has been selected for the Irish U15 soccer team.

Douglas Community School’s U19 Basketball team defeated Kilkenny by double scores 54:27.

Ian Tobin is the new Cork County U15 Cross-Country Champion.

Another victory for our U16&1/2 team, who defeated Mount Sion 2-18 – 2-08.

Winners of the Cork Cross-Country Championships were the U15 athletics’ team led by Ian Tobin, James Kelleher and Emet Bracken.

DCS U17 athletics’ team won first place in the Cork Cross-Country Championships led by Peter Hanrahan, Patrick Coleman and Brian Murray.

Overall winners of the U19 Cork Cross-Country Championships were Adam Kelleher, Richard Quirke and David O’Keeffe.

Outstanding performances on the soccer pitch by DCS student, John Forest, has resulted in him being selected for the Irish Schools’ Soccer Squad.

Peter Hanrahan is U17 Cork County Champion Cross-Country.

Congratulations to Edward Finn, Sean Moynihan and Dean Kelly who represented Munster in the Senior Soccer School’s Interprovisional tournament in Athlone.

DCS senior rugby team defeated Carrigaline Community School on a score of 45:19.

Another triumph for DCS U14 athletics’ team led by Eoin Bourke, John Durcan and Billy Murphy in coming first in the Munster Cross-Country Championships.

DCS U16 athletics’ team led by Patrick Coleman, Cullen Lynch and Ian Tobin won first place in the Munster Cross-Country Championships.

Success continues for the U18 athletics’ team in winning the Munster Cross-Country Championships. The team was led by Peter Hanrahan, Adam Kelleher and Brian Murray.

Students Richard Quirke, Peter Hanrahan, Brian Murray, Patrick Coleman, Robert O’Neil, James Kelleher, Adam Kelleher, Alan O’Brien, Shaun Healy, Cullen Lynch, David O’Keeffe and Conor O’Brien have been selected to represent Munster in the Elite Munster Regional Track and Field Squad will be DCS.

First place in the Open Cross-Country Event for the DCS U14 team led by Eoin Bourke, Gary McCarthy, Billy Murphy and Michael McLaughlin.

Another win for U16 team in the Open Cross-Country Event. The squad was led by Shaun Healy, Cullen Lynch and Mark Seacy.

Triumph in the Open Cross-Country Event for the U20s DSC team led by Patrick Coleman and Alex Kelly.

DCS transition year students Sam O’Mahoney, Aiden Heffernan, Shane O’Sullivan and Cian Mangan have been selected to participate in a twenty-four week programming course in the department of computer science at University College Cork.

UCC’s Boole Centre for Research in Informatics (BCRI) has invited four Douglas Community School students to experience some of the advances that have been made in Information and Computer Science.

Each year, UCC chooses highly achieving students to participate in this innovative project. This year, DSC students Sam O’Mahoney, Aiden Heffernan, Shane O’Sullivan and Cian Mangan will visit the university to experience, first hand, the cutting edge advances in research, software and hardware. Talks will also be given by members of the Informatics Olympiad, Mathematics Olympiad and world-class scientists.
