It was a brilliant day for Douglas CS athletes at the All Ireland Schools Cross-Country Championships held at the University of Ulster Jordanstown.
Alan O Donovan had a great run in the minor boys 2500m race to get the ball rolling for the school.
Next up were the Inter (u17) team who were aiming at winning the All Ireland title to secure a place at next years World Schools XC Championships in Israel. The race was over 5000m and the team displayed incredible heart and fight throughout the race. It proved to be a mighty team battle with St Malachys College Belfast with Douglas taking the silver medals in a very close race. Liam Harris as always led by example with a superb run in 15th, and other top 20 finishes by Jamie O Connell and Luke Varian helped the team to a great finish. Behind them Evan Byrne, Ben Smith, Stephen Cotter, Fionn Bracken and John Stout all ran great and did their bit for the team.
Last up was our senior boys team, and what a superb race they had finishing in 4th place, just 7 points off team bronze. John Durcan had his finest ever run with a superb 16th and with great runs by captain Eoin Bourke, Billy Murphy, Brendan Couch and Emmet Bracken the 4th place finish was well deserved.
Congratulations also to Douglas CS past pupils Ian Tobin, Cullen Lynch, Alan O Brien, James Kelleher, Adam Kelleher and Craig Harrington who led Cork IT to a 5th place finish in the Inter Varsity XC Championships on the same day. A fantastic day overall for the school, well done to all involved.
