It was another successful week for the Douglas Community School athletics team which competed at the Cork Uneven Age Cross-Country Championships and in a challenge race against Midleton CBS.
The Cork Championships were held in Carraig Na bhFear in great conditions and the school had lots of athletes in action. Alan O Donovan ran a superb race in the boys u13 2500m and finished in 3rd place with other good runs from Isaac Sylvester and Killian O Driscoll.
In the u15 3500m race Richard Santry ran a superb race to help the team win the silver medals with a great run also by Sean Barber in 11th place.
Jamie O Connell has been improving every year and produced one of his finest ever races to win the boys u17 5000m, and leading the team to silver medals. Other great runs came from Stephen Cotter, Fionn Bracken and Alan Ring.
Our 1st year team took on Midleton CBS in a challenge race held over 1300m at the school and here Alan O Donovan (pictured leading the field) had another superb run to win easily with Ciaran Couch having an outstanding run for 2nd place. The team ran very well with great performances from Daniel Hurley, Luke Horgan, James McCarthy and Conor Horgan. In the end DCS won the team race by 2 points.
Well done to all the athletes.
