Douglas Community School’s Debating team last night defeated Colaiste Treasa of Kanturk in the first round of the Concern Debating Competition. The team, lead by captain Stephen O’Riordan 6th year proposed the motion, “For women to access leadership positions, gender quotas must be implemented”. Suneet Mahajan in 4th year put in a strong performance as the second speaker. He was followed by two other 6th year students, Colm McSweeney and Jakub Palacka respectively, whose rebuttals were concrete. The topic was hotly contested, but in the end all three adjudicators passed the motion deeming Douglas Community School victorious. The team will continue on to their next debate at the end of November and we wish them well.
