Congratulations to Daniel Herlihy of Transition Year who has been selected for the Irish Team at the 11th International Linguistics Olympiad in Manchester in July. Daniel will join his team-mates from Dublin, Kildare and Belfast for a two-day training camp in Dublin before heading off for five days of competition in Manchester.
In order to qualify for the Irish team, Daniel came an exceptional fifth place in the All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad final. This performance was enough to secure him a gold medal, and a plane ticket to Manchester.
Four pupils from Douglas Community School were part of 110 second-level students who competed in the All-Ireland Linguistics Olympiad at DCU on Wednesday, March 20th.
The squad consisted of 4th years Akhil Chellapuri and Daniel Herlihy and 6th years Eoin Conroy and Stephen O’Sullivan, who was also commended for his performance in the final.
The morning was spent competing in the individual section of the competition. After lunch, the 4 of them combined their efforts to complete the team section of the Olympiad.
Well done to the four lads, and best of luck to Daniel and the rest of the Irish team in the International Linguistics Olympiad – go n’éirí and t’adh leo!
